Hike from Fira to Oia
Oia is a charming little place from where you can catch the perfect sunset. Its white houses and churches are in perfect harmony with their surroundings. The 9 km long trail is an easy one, with not too many uphill and downhill places. Typically, you can finish it in 2 or 3 hours tops. The panorama along the road makes the hike worth the effort.
Visit Red Beach
Red Beach is one of the unique beaches on the island. Its red volcanic cliffs, the sand, the dark blue waters, all that looks simply amazing. Thanks to that, Red Beach is one of the most photographed beaches in the world. What’s even more interesting about this beach is that it has the perfect sea bed for snorkeling.
Go Castle Exploring
There are five Venetian castles on Santorini dating from an era when pirates regularly laid siege to the island. They are located in five villages: Akrotiri, Emporio, Pyrgos, Imerovigli, and Oia. Tourists can freely explore their towers, as well as their ruins, and capture images.
Visit Santorini’s Volcano
The volcano of Santorini is the most famous attraction on the island. Its two residual islets are exceptionally interesting from where you can start your exploration. Visit Ancient Thera
“Thera” was the name of the island in ancient times. Later it was called “Santa Irini” by Venetian merchants. Soon after, the name was turned into Santorini and remained as such until the present time.
Ancient Thera is situated on the Mesa Vouno Hill, and its origins are from the 9th Century. One of the most exciting parts about this splendid archaeological sites is that it holds remains from various periods like the Byzantine, the Roman, and the Hellenic period. The remains of the theatre, the gymnasium, the temples, and the agora are truly inspiring.
